Understanding Energy and Connections

Talking about connections, whether they are between people or, you know, between devices, really makes you think about how things draw power and make things work. It's a bit like trying to get a high-powered Nespresso machine to run off an inverter in a van. You need to understand the watts and volts, for instance, a Nespresso coffee machine might draw 1710 watts at 240 volts, which comes to 7 amps. What we need to remember is that the inverter needs to step up 12 volts to 240 volts. And, as a matter of fact, a 1200w coffee machine needs at least 120 amps of 12-volt power to get started.

Hi, thanks for the reply, you know, I understand everything you said. But when the new Nespresso machine is, you know, a permanent fixture in the van, it gets tricky. Not sure if this has been covered, but has anyone tried to run a Nespresso machine from an inverter? I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to 12v power and don't really understand it. The 220w folding solar panel that I bought for the Panda was way too big to be comfortably portable, so I deconstructed it. Not sure, but I assume the 3000w would be the peak output, which would mean a 1500w continuous output. We are also looking at getting one and fitting it to the van. Once received, I wish to install a 3000w inverter suitable to operate a Nespresso coffee machine. I wish to integrate the system with the mains 240v with auto changeover and, you know, all that.

At home, we have a nice Breville dual boiler coffee machine which makes great coffee, but in the van, we have always used the Bialetti, and it makes very good coffee, better than some others, honestly. I tested it on the Nespresso machine and milk frother, and it ran both without raising a sweat. It’s wired to a GPO under the table. I used a CMS GPO so I could piggyback off it and put, you know, other things there. The only item I don't use it for is the aircon. Microwave and Nespresso machine work a treat. No separate earthing is required. I have used a plug-in RCD then outputs from, you know, that. Nespresso coffee pod machine not working on inverter, it's a common topic, sometimes, like back in May 2022, people were discussing it. It's, basically, all about making sure you have enough consistent power, just like in a relationship, you need consistent effort to make it work, right?
